Violinist/ Electric Violin School Program

Steve has been doing programs at Arts Days, Music Festivals and special demo music classes for band and orchestra kids for many years.  Ranging from 20-60 minutes he covers everything to how the violin works to music styles from Mozart to Irish and American fiddling and on to modern Pop and Rock music on the Yamaha Electric Violin. This never fails to get a "Wow" from the students. Programs are geared to the age range, length and purpose of the teachers and administrators.

Shows for Kids

Believe it or not, I have done many performances for young people of varying ages. Kids at KinderCare, Monroeville Mall, Northway Mall, Upper St, Clair School District, Deer Lakes Schools, St. Mary's Glenshaw, and other venues have enjoyed an interactive concert with a variety of styles of music.  For the youngest 1-5 I start with the Violin case closed and slowly open it asking the kids to say "Wake Up, Violin".  Then carefully remove it's "blanket" and take it out of it's "bed". I then make funny sounds tuning the instrument, talk about the number and names of the strings, and what the Violin is made of. From there I do songs with which they are familiar like "Twinkle, Twinkle", "Mary Had A Little Lamb", "Barney's Song", and "sesame Street".  long the way I will also show them my bow and pass around an old bow so they can feel the horse-tail hair.  I often take requests and encourage them to clap along to Bluegrass numbers and even dance around - space permitting. Finally, I end with a song which requires plucking the string, known as pizzicato, and allow them to come up and pluck the string in time of the song.  Other styles I usually include are Irish fiddling, Classical favorites, and movie themes.

For older kids,  I will expand the repertoire to include more complex music and go into more detail on the construction of the Violin, it's history, the composers of the music, etc ...  I may include Jazz, Viennese, Hungarian, and other styles I think they would appreciate.   I also allow them to touch the bow and pluck the string too and ask them for requests.

Shows for Seniors

We could do these every day. What a great audience. It's our pleasure to perform concert-style or as background music for seniors groups in a variety of settings. Our specialty is to be able to perform a wide variety of music that we know you love. "Moon River", "Somewhere My Love", "Spanish Eyes" , "Blue Danube", "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and dozens more favborites as well as Irish, Italian, Hungarian, and other ethnic standards. Gershwin, Sinatra, Elvis, Strauss, Mozart, Elvis are all part of our usual performace. We also take requests so we play what you want to hear. Shows can be geared for Irish music for St. Patrick's Day, Christmas Music for the Holidays, Patriotic music, Italian music, Jewish Popular tunes, Horas, and Klezmer music for Hanukah. We love it all. I can do it alone as a solo Violinist or with my favorite Pianist/Keyboardist John Garrick for a truly magnificent musical experience.
Recent performances of this type include St. Barnabas, Friendship Village of Mt. Lebanon, Atria South Hills, Concordia at Rebecca Residence, Weinberg Terrace in Squirrel Hill, Memorial Park Church, St. Victor in Bairdford, Valencia Woods, Longwood in Oakmont, Arrowood at Southwestern, Dormont AARP, North Pittsburgh AARP, and many more. We also know that many groups are on tight budgets so we try to be flexible - especially on weekdays. Call me and we can talk about making you look good.

"I’m so sorry that I didn’t get a chance to thank you after your performance last evening – magnifico!! I was doing a couple of jobs at once last night, very busy. The residents thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m sure we’ll be having you back. I will pass your name on to the other Activities Coordinators."
